Tribe Bulks Up

After trying this and that “social networking” service (and ultimately completely disengaging from LinkedIn and Plaxo) The Tribe is my one remaining experiment in this space.

I’m not a hard core Tribe user. I logged in today for the first time in a month and discovered Tribe has a new set of features in beta (to be released, Real Soon Now) that look quite interesting.

With the new customizable personal profiles, Tribe will move closer to the MSN Spaces and Yahoo 360 and Google “all-in-one” web service. An easy to set up and manage blog is seamlessly integrated with an online photo album, personal email and messaging, and oh yes, forums (a la Yahoo or Google Groups).

If you have not yet tried Tribe, it’s worth a look. It’s the coolest, edgiest social networking site I’m aware of. I participate in just a few groups: PHP, Gadget People, Metal Worikng, Demented Steel Workers, MySQP. (I agree, there’s nothing edgy or exciting in THAT set of groups). But now and then I learn something new and interesting.

You never know where you”ll find a good idea.
