iRiver 899 (Repeat) Glitch

The small rounded plastic part that covers the battery of my iRiver 899 MP3 player fell off within 24 hours of purchase. It took some persuasion, but bless ‘em, Best Buy made an exception to their policy. They ripped open a new package and gave me the missing plastic iRiver part. (Yes, I was that persistent and annoying. Sigh.) In return I bought a service agreement on sale for a ridiculously low price (under $10) and left the Best Buy store a happy, some might say BLISSFUL iRiver 899 owner.

Since the darn part is obviously a loose fit, I applied a small piece of Scotch tape. While ugly as hell, my workaround kept the plastic bit from falling off. But after a couple of battery swaps, once again my iRiver 899 battery compartment door went missing.

Should you “know somebody who knows sombody” (at iRiver),have ‘em email me. It’s ridiculous that my $200 iRiver 899 now looks like something a homeless person might buy for $3 at Goodwill.

Please, sombody, help me get a proper replacement iRiver 899. They MUST know there was a batch of out of spec (tolerence) plastic. Let’s be civilized and solve this.

Don’t make me crawl to an Apple store with my tail between my legs and buy an iPod. I can imagine Steve Jobs is sneering right now. Sigh.

I selected a cool little MP3 player from a respected vendor. they’ll make good on it. Right?

Dude, just give up and buy an iPod. You’ll be happy. We’ll be happy. You don’t have to crawl anywhere to get it — Amazon will be happy to deliver it (free shipping) to the place of your choosing.

The old Xircom RealPort tagline applies to the iPod — “nothing to break, nothing to lose.”
