Samsung i730 Quickie Report
After cradling a Samsung i730 in my hands, here are my initial reactions.
Phone size: very close to Treo 650 (when sliding keyboard is hidden)
Screen size: bigger than Treo 650 in vertical dimension, about same width
Screen brightness: very good, similar to Treo 650.
Screen resolution: Can’t really tell yet. Initial impression: about the same as Treo.
Keyboard size:Keys are bigger and more widely spaced. SIGNATURE FEATURE.
Usability: Can’t tell yet. Microsoft on mobiles is an unfamiliar user interface for me, but seems to be basically OK.
Samsung i730 PROBLEM: Initial model does not include a camera. That’s a non-starter for me. I think.
Probability i730 is my next phone: 65 percent.
Other Verizon compatible contenders:
Treo 650 SnapperMai is a great IMAP email client. Plus, Treo syncs with Oracle Calender, which we use at work.
HP 6500 (but when will it be available) Incluidng GPS is to die for, but no camera.
Blackberry 9700 (Maybe as a second device? Is that worth the hassle?) No sync with Oracle Calender. But a nice keyboard, and I LOVE tht navigation wheel that i salso clickable.
If I abandon Verzion: Nokia 9300. This design is sooo sweet. But VERY pricey. And no EV-DO fast data.
My Mobile Dark Horse: Sidekick III. Is it real? Feature set? When? It has a nice size keyboard, and really cool navigation features. It coulda been a contender, had Danger Research not rushed out the half-baked SideKick II.
