RCA: Mobile + Wireless Dock

The new RCA Cell Docking System (model 23200RE3) may be the answer to my dream of solving the marginal Verizon mobile coverage at my home. It’s a simple concept: put a dock for your mobile phone near a window where the signal is best. The dock communicates over 2.4GHz to a wireless handset. Your mobile charges while it’s docked.

I plan to order the Cell Docking System soon. First, I need to figure out which mobile handset I’ll use.

I’m about to give up on my quest to find a better Treo 650 than the Treo. The Samsung i730 is close, and remains a contender. But the battery life bothers me, and I’m nervous about the lack of support by my friendly IT department. Besides, my two year old Palm Tungsten-C is one fine PDA. Great screen, great keyboard, and it syncs flawlessly with Oracle Calendar at work.

My new object of mobile desire: the Motorola E815 which replaces the well-regarded (by my boss) Moto 710. The E815 has EV-DO, Bluetooth, speaker-independent dialing, speaker phone, megapixel camera and an MP3 player.

The Moto E815 also UNFORTUNATELY uses TransFlash semi-removable flash cards. I’ve previously trashed the TransFlash format. While I still dislike it, everything else about the E815 hits the mark, so maybe I just suck it up and buy the E815.
