Hello, Moto Q

I’ve been searching for my Next (almost perfect) Phone. The Samsung i730 is close, but it’s now OFF my wish list. The i730 is great in many ways, but it does not use Windows Mobile 2005, has weak battery life and lacks a camera. The i720’s 24×320 screen, while very nice, is not as good as the 320×320 on my Palm Tungsten-C, now two years old and still going strong (with GREAT battery life).

That was then.

This week I’m faced with new and VERY difficult tradeoffs. Shall I put my mobile life on hold for six months for the Moto Q.

The Q looks great; it may become a Blackberry killer. But I wonder about the Q’s battery life. It’s so skinny, Moto had to skimp on battery, unless this is the world’s first fuel cell phone.

If I decide I can’t wait six LONG months, I’m almost certain to settle for Motorola’s E815 (a refresh of their excellent 710).

It’s ridiculous: while most people around the globe don’t have enough to eat or suffer because of minimal or non-existent health care (unfortunately that includes the USA, the RICHEST country on earth…), I dither about how to spend $500 to $700 on a mobile communicator. I bow my head in shame as I reach for my American Express card.

you will be VERY pleasantly surprised by both the talk time and standby time the Q offers before needing to be plugged in….and it will cost less than you think too!!

[...] It has been a while since we talked (here, here 2, here 3, here 4, here 5 and.. here 6) about my dreams for a useable mobile phone and PDA combo. When last we spoke, I expressed my love (lust?) for the Motorola Q, coming to a store near you in early 2006. That is a long time for any of us to wait, but I’m trying to restrain my impulses, yet I really want to Live a Better life Now. [...]
