WoW Update Week 1
A week ago I started a three month experiment with World of Warcraft (WoW), by far the most popular Massively Multiplayer On-line Role Playing Game (MMORPG).
As a reminder, I bought the program (all four CDs worth), paid for a 90 day subscription ($14/month) and purchased a thick and (for me) USELESS book about the details of the program.
Since I’m a busy puppy during the week, I choose to limit my WoW MMORPG experiment to my weekends, spent with my angel of a wife here in Arroyo Grande, CA. I (finally!) have WoW running on a semi-decent HP (from WalMart) with a 2.8Ghz Celeron with lots of RAM, but only so-so built-in graphics
It is a genuine pain to even get started with the WoW gaming experience. It takes an eternity to download the latest patches — one was 191 megabytes!
For someone who’s not “into” role playing games, the elaborate labyrinth of choices you must make to even create a character is baffling.
My Week 1 WoW report: I’m puzzled why so many people around the globe are fascinated by the MMORPG gaming experience. But for you, my faithful (??) readers, I plan to soldier on — a terrible but irresistible pun given the WoW context.
