Economic 9/11?
We don’t know the full impact of Katrina yet, but things look grim. This will be an environmental disaster of the first magnitude, and will have a wrenching impact on availability and price of refined petroleum products.
It’s not unreasonable to expect a shock to the US economy not unlike what happened after the 9/11 terror attacks.
If you really need a little extra depression today, consider what might happen if The Bad Guys decide this period is a window of opportunity.
Don’t you wish I’d just stick to writing about mobile phones and web services?

Righty-oh, Mr. Jeffries. It will be interesting to see how the W administration responds to the multiple challenges of rebuilding the “blue” city of New Orleans (yes, blue — read http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/election/), and the “why should we care about ‘dem” areas of Southeast Louisiana and Mississippi. Oh, I forgot, there are a few oil interests in Southeast Louisiana. That’s reason enough. Let’s see where oil prices go, and where oil company profits go, in the next year.
If I had any money right now I’d be buying Schlumberger (SLB) and Halliburton (HAL) stock.
Nah, keep writing about whatever the heck you want to write about. It’s informative and entertaining.
