The 3G Wave in USA

After years of hearing pundits claim 3G will be a total dead end, it’s fun to see EV-DO taking off like a rocket in the United States. My recent experience with a Verizon Aircard helps me understand where this “broadband everywhere there’s a mobile phone signal” may be headed.

PrimoPDF is a free PDF creation program that can be used from any program. (You simply print to the PrimoPDF device). Adobe Acrobat is very cool, but costs money. PrimoPDF doesn’t do everything Acrobat can do, but it may meet your needs.

VDSL2 and Ikanos

Ikanos Communications went public today. Nothing spectacular, but their stock closed up a dollar on the first day of trading. Ikanos is interesting because they are the market leader in producing chips that support the new VDSL2 technology. VDSL2 promises to deliver very high bandwidth over very short copper loops. (But be careful. It runs out of gas compared with. ADSL2+ past (insert a speculative VDSL2 loop length here); my estimate is only 6Kft or so.
