A colleague at work writes: “We should all urge Bush to send most of the FEMA and “Homeland Security” people to Iraq to replace National Guardsmen at the checkpoints. They could bring back the National Guard to do disaster aid and homeland security. Part of the deal would be that the National Guardsmen would be paid what the bureaucrats were being paid and vice versa. “
I am NOT a “Microsoft hater.” In fact they are a great company, and Bill Gates is one very smart guy. But next year’s planned transition to the new Vista version of DOS (sorry I meant to say “Windows) is the perfect time to Just Say NO! Here’s why:

There’s a good article in The New York Times about eBay’s deal to buy Skype. This quoute caught my eye:
I’ve been using a beta of OpenOffice 2.0. (my build is version 1.9.125). I’ve used Writer (MS Word equivalent), Impress (Powerpoint) and Calc (Excel) so far, and they just work. Unlike (multiple) instances when I tried earlier versions OpenOffice I now plan to adopt it for routine work.

Microsoft Word is almost certainly the single “most used” business application. You owe it to yourself to read this article that highlights the “Word misuse” issue.
