A Face Lift to Die For?

A cultural shift has happened in Iraq since the war began. Communication is more open, including 24 by 7 exposure to Western culture via satellite TV. For example, the country is bathed by music videos featuring (some might say highly erotic) images of attractive young women.

According to a radio report, an unexpected outcome of the Iraq war is an explosion of demand for plastic surgery in Baghdad. Nobody knows for sure, but one plausible hypothesis is that Iraqi men see pretty women on TV, and decide to spend a few bucks on their wife to tune up her appearance

One plastic surgeon schedules three cosmetic surgeries per day in downtown Baghdad. It’s the usual: eye lifts, nose jobs, tummy tucks and breast enhancements.

Young Americans are being sent to Iraq, and many never return home. We found no weapons of mass destruction, but there’s a face lift to die for.
