FIOS Lockin
According to this note, Verizon’s FIOS fiber to the residence project which uses passive optical networking (PON) has an interesting and potential major side effect. Fiber yes, but your copper phone loop is history, period.
Since the FCC decided fiber network facilities do NOT have to be shared with competitive local exchange carriers (CLECS), installing fiber to the residence freezes out competing access providers.
