My Stealth Conference

I am sitting at my desk in Santa Barbara, CA listening to Rich Tehrani speak at the (invitation only) Voice Peering Forum. The conference is in New York, I am three thousand miles away, and I was not invited. What’s up?

Skype over Verizon EV-DO (CDMA network) allows me to listen to the conference. My friend Peter Macaulay who’s a VoIP expert, was invited. Peter used Skype’s “presence” to see I was up and about, then asked: “Would you like to listen in?”

Peter’s EV-DO stats show the max speed was only 91 Kbps for the last 30 minutes. And the audio feed worked like a charm.

A few bullet points about The Voice Peering Fabric (VPF):

First and only distributed Layer 2 Ethernet Fabric for the exchange of VoIP traffic.

VoIP exchange providing complete transparency on buyers & sellers, including their routes, rates, available capacity and member provided ASR.

Carrier ENUM Registry allowing VoIP networks to interconnect.

A self-policing and reporting service via member feedback.

VoIP exchange with an open architecture allowing third-party applications to be incorporated within the fabric.

VPF is pursuing what may become a revolutionary concept. It’s worth watching.

P.S. The conference was organized by Stealth Communications. I am unapologetic about my double entendre headline.
