GBStv

I may be the last person on the Internet to check out the GBStv streaming video service, also known as The Goon Broadcast System.

Wikepedia says this about that (GBStv):

GBStv (Goon Broadcast System Television) is an Internet television stream created and maintained by members of the Something Awful web forum. Videos are submitted to the site by members and then after a moderation process, placed in the system database to be searched and played. Videos are first played a in random order, but members can also select videos to be played which are then inserted into a running playlist queue, which takes precedence over the random playlist.

Videos include public domain feature films, 80s cartoons, old educational videos, music videos, old commercials (usually for video games and consoles), short films, news clips, educational programs, and even low budget home made productions made by members.

When playing, videos can be voted and commented upon using the GBStv website or through the GBStv Internet Relay Chat channel. Videos can only be re-added to the playlist every 36 hours. Unlike any other Internet TV stream that exists now, GBStv considers itself a real television station complete with a logo and bumpers, with the added benefit of real-time user interaction. While adding and voting videos is limited to paid members of the Something Awful forums and their invitees, anyone can watch GBStv on their computer with the appropriate media player.

GBStv is an interesting idea. User created content, self-organizing, free, diverse, weird and cool. (You’ll need to download Winamp to watch the show).
