Imminent Internet Singularity

I know you are busy. We all are. But if you only have time to click a single link today, you should read The Imminent Internet Singularity. It’s a presentation by Dr. Gary Flake who is joining Microsoft Research from Yahoo!.

Flake presents some really interesting ideas. After I absorb it, we may talk again.

Go do your homework, or so supper for you. And no TV either!

One Response to “Imminent Internet Singularity”

  1. Peter Macaulay Says:

When I step through Gary Flake’s presentation on the “Imminent Internet Singularity” and see the graphs on “Visualizing Long Tails” I am reminded of those early Internet days with business plans that just wanted to get 2% of the market share. The market was going to be so big — that was all you would need! I understand the integration of the area under the curve and I understand that a bigger tail makes for more potential disruptions. The presentation begs the question of what aspects of the Internet will speed progress in these long tail systems.

There was an indirect reference to “The Innovator’s Dilemma” by Clayton Christensen which should be added to the presentation … [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060521996/].

Also, Ray Kurzweil was referenced without his latest book. Add “The Singularity Is Near” for a thought provoking read [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0670033847/].

    Fun stuff.
