Beyond Belief
President Bush and his team (especially Mr. Rove) upon occasion show political cunning of the first magnitude. But–and this is a HUGE “but”–the pending approval to allow Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co. (from the UK) to transfer its operations to Dubai Ports World, a United Arab Emirates business is beyond belief.
Peninsular & Oriental runs major port operations in several US cities. This stupid, outrageous decision will be dead simple for voters in the next election to grasp.
Mr. Bush, who most people think was a strong leader after the 9/11 tragedy has evidently changed his stripes. The Bush administration is apparently OK with allowing an Arab-owned company to operate strategically important USA ports.
What are they smoking in the White House?

Baksheesh flows freely from W’s White House to the UAE and Saudi governements. It’s truly stunning that this imperial presidency cannot be reeled in by the current Congress. Perhaps the pending defeat of Rick Santorum will help turn the tide. I never thought I’d be including Arlen Specter in my nightly prayers, but he and Dennis Hastert may be our only hopes as responsible Republican leaders in Congress.
