Microsoft + Alcatel and IPTV
Microsoft may not be able to ship Vista on time, but it’s deadly serious about attacking the IPTV business opportunity. Om Malik talks about how Alcatel and Microsoft teamed up to win IPTV business from Deutsche Telecom’ T-Com in Germany.

Alcatel is Microsoft’s partner in IPTV business, and the two companies have worked together on many IPTV deployments. Microsoft IPTV has been much talked about, just like the white tigers of Sumatra, but remains as elusive as the big cats, when it comes to live deployments.
AT&T, British Telecom and Telecom Italia are some of the telecom giants who have signed up for Microsoft’s IPTV vision. British Telecom, in fact has just announced final plans for its BT Vision TV service, and expects trials to begin shortly. Swisscom, despite previous setbacks is still on board.
The Seattle Post Intelligencer adds:

Deutsche Telecom plans to use Microsoft’s technology for its Internet Protocol Television service in what the Redmond company is describing as its largest IPTV deal in Europe to date.
Microsoft Corp. said the German telecom company initially will introduce the service in the second half of 2006 in 10 cities, including Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne. Deutsche Telecom previously had been conducting a trial of the Microsoft IPTV software.
