Nokia 770 Review (Reviewed)

Rob Pegoraro of The Washington Post has written a negative review of the Nokia 770 internet tablet. I asked a friend who owns (and likes) the Nokia 770 to comment:

[tease] (emphasis added)

The Washington Post article is junk. The 770 has lots of valid criticisms, none of which this guy figured out. Instead, he talks about things like “the limitations of a 800×480 screen.” It’s a handheld device! I challenge you to find better screen resolution in a handheld device.

[Pegoraro] also didn’t like the 770′s lack of keyboard… but it has a touch screen that is as large as the device, so where’s the keyboard going to go? Besides, someone has already ported Bluetooth keyboard support, so go get yourself one and there ya go.

This guy is putting himself right in the club with David Pogue of The New York Times: Guys that Don’t Get It.

Since Cloudy Thinking is “fair and balanced” (???) you may also want to read a couple of other sources:

For positive feedback on the Nokia 770, see this article by David Rothman at Teleread, which generated interesting user feedback.

And at CNET, you’ll read so-so review of the Nokia 770. They rate it 4.9 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Heh, it’s really funny to criticize a 800×480 screen. It’s superb for a mobile device – it’s the exact (?) same resolution as on the UMPC, which is about 4-5 times as big a device in terms of size, weight, price and on top of that is not yet available!

The 770 is the first product in this series and. As such there are a few software and hardware issues, but Nokia will no doubt fix those in the future versions. The software for 770 has already improved greatly since the launch. While the 770 may not be ideal for the mainstream user it’s well suited for the early adopter with its good feature set and low price!
