Oracle and Linux
According to Richard Waters of The Financial Times, Larry Ellison of Oracle is thinking about acquiring a major Linux distribution, and thus going head to head with Bill Gates of Microsoft.
The timing is right for a bold move into Linux by a major player. Microsoft is vulnerable as it attempts to switch its installed base to the Vista flavor of Windows. Linux as an operating system and the cluster of applications that run on Linux have matured and are as good or better than what Microsoft offers.
I would have expected this move from IBM, but Oracle entering the Linux world would make things very interesting. Bring it on!
