My Bluetooth Headset

This weekend I finally took the plunge and set up a Jaber Bluetooth headset with my Palm Treo 700p. This was my first Bluetooth experience, and it went OK.

My first attempt to “pair” the Jaber and Treo failed. I misunderstood the requirement to ender a PIN for the Jaber. Once past that small hurdle, it just works.

Yes, it looks dorky. As far as I know, all Bluetooth headsets look a bit weird. Life is full of tradeoffs. It remains to been seen if the dork factor (and need to charge it every couple of days) will outweigh the convenience of a wireless headset.

My wife watched me trying out the Bluetooth headset and observed: “Now it will be hard to tell who’s crazy and talking to themselves. They may be using a wireless headset that’s hidden by long hair.

And we call this progress?

P.S. If any of you have seen a decent comparative review of Bluetooth headsets, please share. Friends claim the Plantronics V-510 is current best of Bluetooth breed. It does get the microphone closer to your mouth than competing models. That seems like A Good Thing to me.

The Washington Post has an article about the “crazy” factor associated with Blutetooth headset use. Enjoy.
