Microsoft Bulks Up

How many programmers does it take to generate millions of lines of half-baked, proprietary software with so many security holes they can barely issue urgent patches fast enough to partially keep the bad guys away. A Lot.

Todd Bishop writes in the Seattle Post Intelligencer:

With the net addition of 10,081 employees, Microsoft says its work force totaled 71,553 people worldwide as of June 30, the end of its 2006 fiscal year, up 16 percent from the same point the previous year.

One would assume that with all this new talent, major Microsoft product launches such as Vista and Office 2007 would arrive on schedule, and be solid as a rock.

Did Microsoft need 10,000 new hires to compete with Apple’s iPod?

Or maybe… Google has Bill and Melinda Gates and their minions really worried.

I certainly would hate to see them forced to sell their mansion. Who else would buy a house with a garage that holds 65 cars?

Jay Leno?
