Cheney Says Iraq War II “doing remarkably well”

The ThinkProgress blog reports about a Rush Limbaugh radio interview of Vice President Cheney.

CHENEY: Well, I think there’s some natural level of concern out there because in fact, you know, it wasn’t over instantaneously. It’s been a little over three years now since we went into Iraq, so I don’t think it’s surprising that people are concerned.

On the other hand, this government has only been in office about five months, five or six months now. They’re off to a good start. It is difficult, no question about it, but we’ve now got over 300,000 Iraqis trained and equipped as part of their security forces. They’ve had three national elections with higher turnout than we have here in the United States. If you look at the general overall situation, they’re doing remarkably well.

It’s still very, very difficult, very tough. Nobody should underestimate the extent to which we’re engaged there with this sort of, at present, the “major front” of the war on terror. That’s what Osama bin Laden says, and he’s right.

Since things are going remarkably well, Rush Limbaugh should vote with his feet and move his show to some random neighborhood in Baghdad.

Then Rush can invite Vice President Cheney and other top Republican strategists (including Karl Rove) to visit for interviews and enjoy the remarkable level of security Baghdad offers.

The only condition is no US forces can be used to protect these people, and they must drive in regular HumVees from the airport.

They must shop at local markets, and regularly enjoy coffee at one of those quaint sidewalk cafes Baghdad is famous for.

There’s time for a bunch of supporters of Iraq War II to visit and see first hand how well things are going before the November election.

One early visitor might be House Speaker Dennis Hastert and his minions who did not recognize Mark Foley’s behavior was that of a common pedophile.

There should be no favoritism. President George W. Bush could fly his two daughters over to be interviewed by Rush.

It might also make sense for Donald Rumsfeld to make another visit, but this time rely on the fabulous security provided by Iraqi forces.

I thought the Bush twins were already enlisted and partying on the ground in Falluja?

Oops, my mistake. That was a Doonesbury cartoon…
