George W. Bush On Iraq War II

The Washington Post reports that President George W. Bush said in today’s press conference: “If the people think we don’t have a plan for victory, they’re not going to support the effort.”

When a reporter asked the President for a direct answer to the question “Are we winning?” Bush replied: “Absolutely, we’re winning…”

As you’ve noticed, the President no longer talks about “staying the course” as he was frequently saying not long ago. Now the Presidential mantra is “getting the job done.”

That’s a good phrase. Bush’s press conference today was all about getting the job done. But not the job yet to be done (if ever) in Iraq. For now, Job One for Karl Rove and George W. Bush is finding a way to have Republicans stay in power in Congress.

It’s a tough job.
