Freenigma — Strong Encryption for Web Mail
Richard MacManus, writing at Read/WriteWeb alerted me to Freenigma which offers strong e-mail encryption (via a Firefox add-on) for your favorite web mail service.
[tease] (from Freenigma site)
Freenigma uses one of the most famous and most widely used cryptographic software packages in the world: the GNU Privacy Guard (GnuPG). GnuPG is a proven system and it is free software (”OpenSource”). Parts of the development of GnuPG were even officially funded by the German “Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik” which is a German governmental agency for IT security. freenigma supports the OpenPGP.
I have signed up and installed the extension to Firefox. Now I need to find someone else who a) uses a web mail client, and b) has installed Freenigma so exchange test messages.
These encrypted mail messages do not need to be national defense secrets, or breathless erotica. I’ll settle for exchanging REALLY secret information, such as why you like (or not) my blog.
