Jeff Barr Experiments With Self Scheduling
Jeff Barr of Amazon writes about a trip he’s planning where people he does not know can schedule him for meetings, dinners and such at places they select.
Fascinating idea. He presents himself as a resource with certain constraints (geographic and time). People hassle the details and make tradeoffs, then he selects what he’ll do.
It helps that he is a technology evangelist from Amazon. But I could see doing something similar for a trip where you might wish to meet up with various friends and family.
Jeff mentions a couple of services that deserve your consideration:
As they put it:
Find something cool to do, tell your friends, organize an activity together, find out what your friends are up to tonight!
I logged into Planypus and was presented with Santa Barbara events and restaurants. I have no idea how they knew my location. It has to be some magic derived from the ISP I am using?
Very cool stuff.

Ron, thanks for checking out our website. The magic of Planypus comes from our mascot. Like the Unicorn, it has magical powers that allow users to quickly make plans with their friends. There are even more pleasant UI surprises when you start making plans and using the sms/rss features.
