Peter Macaulay on World of Warcraft (WoW) Gaming Robots

Peter Macaulay writes (lightly edited) about World of Warcraft (WoW) gaming robots.

Here’s a YouTube guide to WoW gold farming with bots.

The title “botter” is a new term to me. As opposed to “hand farmers.” Whew.

This World of Warcraft (WoW) setup is not a for-fun-playing-configuration, instead this is a for-profit-money-maker. WoW (as well as other games) are now so popular that we have game players just “farming” for gold to be sold as a virtual asset for real money.

Real Money Transfer (RMT) is an on-going activity with players just “grinding” to level the game for someone else. This is done with job shops in China or with gaming robots.

Sites will allow you to “level” your game up to a certain point in the game where a player can continue. For example, to get to WoW Level 30 “with Female Undead Warlock With Good Gear” the price this week is $129. To buy “Level 70 Male Troll Mage With Awesome Gear, EPIC Flying Mount, 2300 grams of gold” is $1099 …

These bots are hand leveled to level 6, then will automatically play to level 70 in a PVE (Player Versus Environment) rather than PVP (Player Versus Player) servers. These bots are now becoming so good it is replacing the human grinding. In fact, the trading price of virtual gold to real money has dropped in recent months.

What fun.
