The iPhone User Experience + Why Palm Centro is Also Great

A friend writes: You’ve got to hand it to Apple, they do a superior job of marketing the iPhone solution, even if it solves a problem you didn’t think you had.

The Facebook support on the iPhone is truly insightful, even though I don’t do that jive.

NOBODY is marketing mobile services (and handsets) in a way that is even close to being this compelling. The carriers (especially Verizon) still don’t get it, except for AT&T who is happy to have Apple be their proxy.

Having said all that, I’m pleased to see the success of Palm’s Centro. This article give a good overview of the Centro’s rapid acceptance due to excellent functionality, strong software base, and killer $99 price.

If I wasn’t ecstatic about my iPhone, I think a Centro would be my choice. Actually, my soon-to-be 11 years old daughter wants to get her first phone for her birthday this summer. Seeing what kids do to phones, I won’t get her an iPhone, but at $99 the Centro may be in the cards (especially the cool white/green one from AT&T.)

My daughter’s number one applications are games, and the Palm ecosystem certainly excels in that area. Plus the simplicity of the old klunky PalmOS user interface still works well for less sophisticated users.

I agree about Apple and iPhone — they showed total brilliance.
Their ecosystem of how it is activated is a game changer

I am not convinced that “screen only” devices will sweep the mobile community. there are so many ways to skin this cat. iPhone is a nice package, but it you accept a little thicker package there are some cool big screen with very useabletactile keyboard solutions.

I still use a Palm Treo 700p. Yes, it’s getting long in the tooth, but it keeps working. Bummer.[grin]

I agree: Centro was a smart move by Palm. Now they have to get something realy cool out. It’s possible they have lost their design magic.

My 13 yr old grandson just got a new LG ENV. he likes it because he texts a lot. This will be the FOURTH mobile he has owned. Wow.
