Jason Calacanis puts 300 people on hold..

Jason Calacanis today used Twitter to quickly assemble 300 people so he could promote TechChrunch and attack the Demo conference. It was an interesting event. Talk about a “flash mob!”

The most amazing part: Jason was on a roll, dissing teh Demo conference and pimping his TechCrunch 50 event. His phone rigngs — it is Mike Arrington. Get this: Jason Calacanis proceeded to PUT 300 PEOPLE ON HOLD.

The chat room was restive, to say the least. Jason tried to justify his incredibly rude behavior by saying how important Mike Arringtonn was. Unbelievable.

Now some context.

I saw the invitation in my live Twitter stream (Tweets from interesting people are delivered as a chat stream in Google’s IM client inside GMail). I clicked through to Ustream, where Jason was holding forth.

The atmosphere was not unlike a revival meeting. If Mahao doesn’t work out for Jason Caacanis, he has a great future in politics or he might consider staring his own church.

His mission was to convince people hat it is criminal that the Demo conference charges an entrepenaur $18,00 for six minutes on stage pitching to VCs.

Jason and Mike Arrignton run Techcrunch 50, a competing venue that does NOT charge. Interesting.

Jason was wildly over the top. It was entertaining to watch the scroll of chat room comments. I signed up with Ustream.tv so I could comment.
