Twitter to identi.ca (Moving from a big city to small town)

I’m moving from Twitter to identi.ca. A decent analogy is that identi.ca feels like a small [social networking] town, while Twitter is more of a large urban metropolis.

Twitter is not unlike a large city, where one enjoys a wide selection of great restaurants and fine museums, but also may not be able to find a parking place, or worse, suffer the indignity of being mugged

Also, like many big cities, the infrastructure at Twitter is constantly being ripped up and replaced. They dig trenches, lay new pipes, put down fresh asphalt, then three weeks later somebody rips it up again to fix the sewer or lay fresh fiber optic cable for Verizon.

In contrast, Identi.ca is a small, friendly rural place where everybody knows your name. They only slight problem I’ve noticed is quite a few people at identi.ca speak Canadian, but then again, no place is perfect.

My Twitter account remains open. I’ll be Living at Identi.ca (and to some extent Friendfeed). Twitter folks (and my Jaiku buddies) will see most of my posts, thanks to ping.fm.

Wish me well. I’ll miss my Twitter posse, but i hope a few will pull up stakes to join me and others at identi.ca where the sky is blue, crime is low, health care is free, all with no traxes.
