I created this comprehensive (or maybe not?) list of microblogging services with help from friends on identi.ca. On Otober 17, 2008 my list includes 14 sites. [See also TWO other microblogging lists at end of this post].
I actively use the first three services, listed in order of my frequency of visting each site. Watch this space for my comments on the various services
identi.ca Open and free! See also laconia.ca, open-source software many people have used to set up their own microblogging sites. The best known laconica “instance is Leo Laporte’s Twit Army. [added Oct 19: List of laconi.ca servers here.]
Twitter is the Big Kahuna. It’s where the people are. Lot’s of drivel unless you are subscribed to a select group of Smart People.
Jaiku was an early mover. It came out aout the same time as Twitter, or maybe a few months earlier. Lots of nice features, but since Google acquired Jaiku user-visible devlopment has been modest to be polite.
