What to do when you lose your job

I recently lost my job, so this CNET article caught my eye. My wife was unenthusiastic about the suggestion that one action is “find a new girlfriend” but she likes most of the other ideas. (This news item may have shaped her negative view regarding me finding a girlfriend as the article advises.

This week I spent four days of my life taking an intense “boot camp” course to prepare for the Program Manager Professional test. Expensive? Yes! But having this credential should be a significant asset when looking for work as a program manager.

The Global Knowledge course materials were first rate. More importantly, Chris Salmon was an exceptionally good instructor. All that’s left now is passing the fairly tough PMP test. I can and will do that.

While immersed in classroom work nine hours a day, there’s ZERO time available to think about how life isn’t fair, etc. etc. Truth be told, the training was (more or less) a fun experience.

Even in a recession there are job opportunities. One local company sells a tire sealant. Allegedly, they are looking for someone who does what I do. I have not applied yet, as I heard about the opportunity only yesterday.

But should that job come through, I’ll PROUDLY add to my resume that I worked for SLiME Inc. Is that cool or what? People who’ve long suspected I’m slimy will have their worst fears confirmed.

It’s all good. I’ll soon have a job. And my wife should be delighted I didn’t need to find that new girlfriend.
