OpenGoo — Free & Open Source Alternative to Google Docs etc.
OpenGoo is a free and open source alternative to Google Docs (and other apps) you can self-host.
This set of web-centric makes sense if you do not trust your data on a public server, or you simply worry about Google forgetting it’s “Do no evil” mantra.
Why not use OpenOffice instead? Simple: OpenOffice uses the desktop model, while OpenGoo is web based.
I can see many smaller companies experimenting with OpenGoo hosted on their own servers. Zimbra comes to mind as one alternative to OpenGoo, but it’s not completely open and is now owned by Yahoo!
OpenGoo is not likely to take over the world, but my gut says it will be a strong niche player in the web centric office productivity market.
Did I mention OpenGoo is free? And that’s is is Open Source? Which part of freedom do you not understand. [with a smile]
