Big Bucks Flowing into US Broadband Infrastructure

Big Bucks (read billions of dollars) will soon flow into US Broadband Infrastructure.

Dave Burnstein, editor and publisher of Fast Net News (previously the DSL Prime newsletter) says via email:

There is several billion dollars of stimulus money about to be approved for rural broadband. Being firmed up by Friday [January 9, 2009] to get through the house and Senate for Obama to sign on January 21st.

This government investment in (mainly rural) networking infrastructure is not a terrible idea. It should really help innovative fiber to the home (as well as high speed DSL over telephone wires) outfits such as Occam Networks Inc. (OCNW). [Disclosure: I worked at Occam (employee #6) for several years, and still own some OCNW stock.]

I certainly want fiber to MY home. Now.
