Deflation in action, or the PC I did not buy from Dell

Dell sends me special offers via email maybe once a week. Today for only $419 I configured a sweet desktop PC. It was pretty cool: Core 2 system with lots of memory, fast front side bus, 250 GB 7200 rpm hard disk and best of all included a 22 inch LCD monitor. I even spent $10 extra to have both a DVD writer and separate DVD reader.

Did I buy? No. Could I afford to buy? Yes and no. We are watching every penny these days, but my wife (and our houshold CFO) sure could use a new system, and I suspect I could have gotten approval to purchase. (In adavnce, always a good thing.)

But I not hit the “Purchase” button because I’m VERY sure there will be even better PC deals in the weeks and months to come. Both the chip and PC industries are struggling. If I am patient, I’ll get more machine for fewer dollars.

That’s deflation in action.
