My Letter to CNBC’s Power Lunch

CNBC blew it today in their crude handling of Nouriel Roubini and Nassim Taleb, two interesting and important economists. This was so bad it was almost tabloid journalism. Here’s my letter to Power Lunch:

Dear CNBC Power Lunch team,

The interaction on your show today between the Power Lunch team and Nouriel Roubini and Nassim Taleb was NOT a proud moment for your show or CNBC.

Yes, these guys are both very bearish, possibly too much so. But in my opinion, you treated them unprofessionally. When one of them did not wish to give investment advice, your snide and disparaging remarks were inappropriate.

These are very tough times, and I understand that by its nature CNBC has a bias toward finding positive news and opinion relative to financial and economic news.

Disagreeing with experts you bring to your show is fine. But being jerks when showing your disagreement does not reflect well on your VERY smart team. Today, Bill Griffith, usually such a cool and calm voice of reason, “piled on” to some extent. He was certainly not the main offender, but I expected more of him.

I wish CNBC would invest more air time with respected economists, For example, every time CNBC has Paul Kedrosky on I listen intently. I have seen him on Fast Money, not sure about Power Lunch.

Thanks for listening.
