Video Progress Report

My $75 (used, on Craigslist) video camera works. I’ve shot a few (lame!) minutes of video, and have sucesffuly imported it into a computer via Firewire. That process was easy peasy.

So far I’ve learned that Best Buy charges $33 for a simple Firewire 4-pin cable. But thanks to Amazon I bought a cable that works fine for just over $3. While I was ordering, I got 12 DVC tapes which arrived today.

I am running out of excuses. Pretty soon my audience (YOU!) will start demanding YouTube links to my video masterpiece.

But not so fast.

My next step is to learn basic video editing. I’ve tried Microsoft Movie Maker, which is not too bad. My early impression is I’ll soon want something that’s more flexible, even if it’s harder to use. One friend uses (and really likes) the Blender program on Linux. I am (so far) too stubborn (or is it a low IQ problem?) to throw in the towel and buy a Mac. Go figure.

Hollywood, here I come. Unfortunately, it looks like I’m too late to be nominated for an Oscar. But just wait a year.
